It
was four years ago this month when Little Falls’ mayoral and town council
candidates last faced off in a debate.
The
debate, moderated by the non-partisan Montclair League of Woman Voters, provided
Little Falls residents with the opportunity to hear the Democratic and
Republican candidates discuss their respective programs for the future of the
Township.
There
is still ample time to hold a 2016 candidates forum before the November 8th
election. This would allow Little Falls residents to get to know the candidates
first hand and to hear their positions on issues facing the
Township.
A
candidates forum is an example of transparency in government and democracy in
action.
All
that is needed to make it happen is the willingness of the candidates to
participate.
Here are the platforms of the two political parties:
ReplyDeleteThe Democrat platform:
- Work to lower the burden on taxpayers by bring more commercial ratables to town.
- Develop a real plan to revitalize the downtown.
- Increase accountability to residents by expanding communications and outreach.
- Eliminate wasteful spending and make government more efficient .
The Republic platform:
- Creating jobs, building tax base through proactive planning.
- Streamlining government to cut costs and red tape, saving dollars.
- Supporting parks, recreation and open space for our children, seniors and families.
The Little Falls Republicans want to "create jobs." How is the creation of patronage jobs going to reduce our tax burden.
ReplyDeleteIt's time for new and strong leadership in Little Falls.
I say that a vote for the Damiano Team is a vote for a brighter future for Little Falls.
The existing council has years to improve . They have not. It's time to move on to change. The Damiano team has been working hard developing good plans for betterment of LF. Out with the old & in with the new ! A debate is good idea
